Be Home Here is a 140-page book of images. There are repeated characters and themes, but the stories are up to you. The artist's inspiration came from all the parts of everyday life—daydreams, bus rides, Grimm's fairy tales, looking at paintings, waking up, riding the subway, reading the newspaper, looking at trees & sky & people, reading books, and remembering things.

The drawings for the book were all made with black gouache and brushes on various sized pieces of paper over the course of three years. Putting the book together out of hundreds of drawings was a collaborative process with another artist, Grace Sullivan, whose editing and designing of the book were integral to its final form.

Mala Iqbal lives and works in New York City. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally.
